Telephone: 0333 358 3509

Phone lines are open Monday to Friday, 8am – 5pm
(Excluding Bank Holidays)

POD will respond to emails within 24 hours during opening times.

Please contact Prescription Ordering Direct for your Repeat Prescription when you have 7 days of medication remaining.

Please note the POD phone lines are busiest on Monday and Tuesday mornings, if at all possible please try to avoid these times when using the POD service as it may result in a longer waiting time.

The POD service provides an easy way to order your prescriptions from the comfort of your own home.

You do not need to register for our service, simply call or email us from Wednesday 5th January 2022.

Why was the POD service introduced?

Our aim is to ensure that patients receive the correct quantity of medication, which they need, in a timely manner, in order to reduce the amount of prescription medicine waste in our area.

Who will I be talking to?

You will speak to one of our dedicated and fully trained prescription clerks, who deal with your prescription request and any queries that you may have. They will ensure that you have the correct quantity of medications, reducing the amount of waste generated.

When and where will I collect my prescription?

POD will send your medication to your nominated pharmacy or dispensary. If you have a current arrangement for your prescription to be delivered then this will continue.

Once the order has been placed, your GP requires 48 hours to authorise your request, and then your pharmacy or dispensary require 48 hours to dispense the medication. The order should be ready to collect within 4 working days.

What information do I include in my email?

  • Registered GP practice:
  • Name of patient:
  • Date of birth:
  • First line of address:
  • Name of each medication needed:
  • How many days you have left:
  • Nominated pharmacy:
  • Your contact number:

If you are ordering on behalf of someone else, please include your name and relationship to the patient.

What can I do to prevent waste?

Only order medication when you have seven days remaining to avoid stockpiling.

Let us know if you have stopped taking any medications.

Tell us if your medications run out on different days so we can align these for you.

Don’t order ‘just in case’, we can process your order urgently if needed.

In 2014 unused prescription medicines cost the NHS over £1 million in Shropshire alone.
